Hi,I'm trying to create a calculation based on columns coming from two sources. So I'm doing data blending.  if [PLANTYPE]='Total PPlans' and isnull(ATTR([Aggregate ID's].[PLAN_ID])) then sum([Value]) else 0 end   ( throwing me an error..saying can't mix aggregate and non- aggregate) and then I 've changed the calculation to if attr([PLANTYPE])='Total PPlans' and isnull(ATTR([Aggregate ID's].[PLAN_ID])) then sum([Value]) else 0 end  ( It's valid but giving me zeroes) NOTE:Plan type and Code are from Primary sourcePlan ID from secondary source...and blended on Primary source.code=secondary source.Plan ID If needed more details please let me know. Thank you for your help in advance.

  • Issue#39: Tableau - A way to create a Tableau data dictionary in order to see the Field Names within a workbook and associated formulas

Tableau does not have the ability to export the workbook logic and load the field names and formulas into other software, for example a program that manages metadata for a company/department to provide a data dictionary. If this can be implemented on future release then it would be helpful for developers to keep track on their Calculating fields and formulas. It will add the ability to provide a data dictionary or integrate Tableau into system like metadata management such as Informatica Metadata Manager is so that users will have a better understanding of how data is connected. As Tableau development of workbook dashboards becomes more complex with connecting to multiple data sources, joining multiple fields, creating numerous calculated fields and workbooks, there is a need for the following: 1.To see which data sources are used in which workbooks, dashboards, and worksheets.2.Understand the data lineage from source to workbook to dashboard to worksheet.3.Ability to vie

  • Issue#41991: Tableau - How to create a sub date range from an data source

I'm trying to create a parameter from a data source that is grouped by weeks (not days) until 9/1/15.  This is messing up my ability to create a functioning parameter, then filter for my sheet because Tableau isn't able to figure out if the number order correctly.  Is there a way to create a new date range that starts at 9/1/2015 so that my filters look normal and that  I can build off? example below:  As a result my filter numbers look weird:         Here's the formula I used to create the Calculated Field for Week ID:      left(str(datepart('year',[Date])*100+(datepart('week',[Date]))),4)+"-"+right(str(datepart('year',[Date])+(datepart('week',[Date]))),2)

  • Issue#50419: Tableau - Applying a filter to multiple data sources

Hello, I have come across an issue which I need some help with. The attached sample workbook can be used to illustrate the situation. My original problem revolved around creating a running sum of orders which were undelivered. The goal behind the calculation was to add new orders as they are created and subtract them from the running sum as they are delivered. With the help of a contributor on this forum, I was able to put together a solution; however, I am running into an issue with the filters. To solve the original problem, I created a calendar in Excel and imported it as a data source. Then, I duplicated my data source which included all the orders and information about them, linked the order date and delivery date fields from the two data sources to the imported calendar and put together a running sum calculation using the imported calendar as the primary data source which worked perfectly.  The issue I am running into now is adding filters on top of the running sum calc

  • Issue#70483: Tableau - datediff using two data sources not working

Need some assistance on this one.   I have two data sources with date/time stamps.  Need to calculate the datediff between the date in primary data source & secondary, then determine average. The data sources are linked on a common field. The DATEDIFF calculation I've entered shows as valid: (Measure Name = Complete to Result) DATEDIFF('hour',ATTR([Exam Complete Date]),ATTR([HL7_Patient_Report (Echo)].[Last Changed Date Time])) The calculation for the average also shows as valid:  (Measure Name = Avg Complete to Result) WINDOW_AVG([Complete to Result]) & shows as Results are computed along Table (Across).  However, I am getting NULL returned.  Obviously, something is incorrect or missing.  Appreciate any suggestions.

  • Issue#91286: Tableau - Does changing data sources voids all created dashboards in Tableau Desktop?

I built my own data set in Excel and imported it into Tableau to build several charts and dashboards. I have published them on Tableau Public but now I wish to change 4 fields in my data set (just names of people). I wish to have the same dashboards just with the new names in it without having to create all the charts and dashboards again. Is it possible to do this in Tableau Desktop? Your help would be highly appreciated.

  • Issue#175895: Tableau - How to create a graph like below for this data?

Required Graph: The data attached is datamatch. In the 6th tab,  filter column 1 to the value 10. Column C shows how person 1 scored person 2, column E shows how person 2 scored person 1, Column F shows person 1 swipe action, column G shows person 2 swipe action, column H shows the duration between the two swipes (-00:00:01 if one or both has not yet swiped), and column I shows the status.  I want a graph similar to above for  Swipes, right swipes, matches, conversations. Then a similar graph showing their percentage change.  Then, I need to create a toggle between aggregate ( showing the total amount at each period) and Discreet (showing the amount for that time period. Also a toggle between total number (either aggregate or discreet) and per user number.  P.S - Please take a screen shot of each and every step to let me know. Thanks in advance.  ThanksChandan Mishra

  • Issue#186596: Tableau - Use historical data to create dynamic target

I hope I explain, what we are trying to accomplish, well enough. Using the Superstore Sample data for example, we want to take the historical sales data from 2011, and use those figures as a goal to measure 2012 against.  For example, in 2011, Furniture Sales totaled around $12.7M. So we'd like that to be our goal, and then if we filter the Product Sub-category, we'd like the target to change. Does anyone have a similar situation that could be used to help us accomplish this view? Thanks in advance!

  • Issue#262561: Tableau - Filter on joined data sources omits dates if no filter values exist (despite no relation t

Some help with the following would be much appreciated. I have tried "show missing values" and the solution on Unable to Show Missing Values (Dates) when date level is switchable using parameter but both approaches do not work for my data sources. I have two data sets, one with daily values ("Time Period" dimension) and one with values for Mondays only ("Week Commencing" dimension). I would like to plot values from both data sets on a week-by-week basis so I have used DATETRUNC to change the daily values to weekly dates. A "End Date Selector" parameter filters the data to show data ending on a specific "week commencing" date. The data is also filtered to dimension values in the daily data set (i.e. "Colour"). Problem: A dimension value (i.e. Colour = Blue) in the daily data set is not present for an entire week (i.e. 29 Feb 2016 - 6 Mar 2016). When the End Date Selector is set to 29 Feb 2016 and the Colour filter to only Blue, then the graph shows the last week for which data

  • Issue#276716: Tableau - Data Blending Left Join Issue

Hi All, We are currently developing a customized usage dashboard for our business users. We are blending data using multiple data sources and both data sources are connecting to PostgreSQL databases. In the second data source we are using custom SQL which basically pulls the users who are in Usage and Admin AD groups. All sites contains corresponding Usage and Admin AD groups accordingly. Our aim is to provide the users logged in with their sites usage data. For example, user X is only part of site A and when he logs in he should be viewing only site A's usage statistics and if user Y is part of site B and C, he should be viewing both sites B and C's usage statistics. For the security piece we are capturing user login information using GetUserName() function. But we have a issue here with the Site Name filter. When a user X logs in, he is able to see only his sites corresponding data getting filtered but the site name filter shows all sites within the environment. we want to

  • Issue#386281: Tableau - How to merge two workbooks made from different data sources

Hi All, Can someone please help to understand how can we merge two workbooks in a single workbook? Please note both workbooks are made from different data sources. For e.g. I have sum(profit) in my workbook no : 1 and in workbook number : 2 I have sum(sales), for every category.  So, I want to display sum(sales) and sum(profit) in a single workbook aginst each category. I can easily do it by exporting both workbooks in excel and then pivoting one of them. Is there any way I can do it in Tableau only and I don't need to export and then pivot the data? Thanks,Mahesh Gujar

  • Issue#401955: Tableau - Data Blending Issue

Hi All, I am working with two data sources and I need to blend some data fields from both data souses to create some dash boards. I did data blending but it does not give me correct results what I expect. I have attached a sample workbook by enclosing similar example which I faced. For your convenience, I have attached two screen shots of results what I expected and observed 1. This kind of figure I am expecting to have. In my two data sets one have 5 ICUs(A, B, C, D, E) and 3 for other(A, B, D) . But this figure shows 3 ICUs(A, B, D) which are in data set 1. But I need to show rest ICUs though those do not have data (C and E) 2. When I blend Data I observed this figure. This figure shows rest 2 ICUs(C and E) But failed to show discharge type correctly as in figure 1 when dragging discharge type into color shell Can anyone please kindly help me to getting this problem solved. I have attached my tableau workbook as well. I can work upto tableau version 9.2.

  • Issue#437561: Tableau - Tableau data sources - conformed dimensions

I am using Tableau to connect to a data warehouse made up of several fact tables as star schema, mostly interconnected, and mostly using conformed dimensions.Does anyone know what is best practice for setting up the data sources in Tableau Desktop?  I do need to connect to the whole set of tables.I have been moderately successful using a mixture of joins and blends, but the approach has some problems. These are, particularly: having multiple copies of the same dimension but under different names, when joined to different fact tables in the same data source schema; e.g. Region connected to one fact table, and a duplicate called Region1 connected to another fact table. The second issue is to do with blends:finding appropriate linking dimensions, and not being able to use the COUNTD aggregation for a secondary source measure. A a few specific questions about best practice: 1. Is it possible to join a single dimension table to two fact tables in the same data source schema?

  • Issue#456161: Impossible to create a date hierarchy from Google Analytics data

Dear all,we are preparing dashboards from Google Analytics data in PowerBI.We encountered a problem:When using Date dimension, in PowerBI, it should be possible to use this feature - Date hierarchy (thanks for an image to asocorro http://community.powerbi.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/1564):  You may see that it is possible to visualize data based on Day, Month, Quarter or Year and therefore change the level of detail. However, when we download our data from Google Analytics, we cannot see these options. We download "date" dimension, which includes information about a month, day and year. However, in the date hierarchy, it is only possible to see "year".Does anyone know, what is the problem? What should we do?

  • Issue#463875: Tableau - Filtering Across Data Sources (Global?)

Hi all, I'm looking to have a filter apply across data sources, in an indirect manner.  Has anyone heard of a way to accomplish this?  Details below: My data model has multiple tables, which are associated via keys.  For the sake of simplicity, let's imagine we have three tables (A, B, and C) and they are all associated by the same key (the larger data model has more tables and more keys, so I'm hoping any solution can scale to that paradigm). As an assumption, we need to assume I cannot alter my data model in any way (I am stuck with these three tables - in reality, more like 8, but hey, this is an example ).I've created a workbook with multiple dashboards.  I'd like to apply a filter from a non-key field in Table A, and have it propagate through the key field to Tables B and C, such that the data in visuals built from Table B and C show only data based on the filter from Table A.Note that the field I filtered on from Table A is not a field in Table B or C
