Issue#19: Tableau - Return Nth Largest Number Across Numbers (Unsorted) for Each Row

  • I've seen a couple of useful suggestions in this forum for returning the Nth largest number, but unfortunately all of them require the numbers to be sorted.  Is there a solution that would do the same with unsorted numbers?  Please see examples below:  I'm trying to find the 2nd largest score for each student among the test scores they got from the different exams.  The subjects have to be displayed in this particular order so numbers may not be sorted (at all) for all the rows.

Student               Math          Science          History          English             Correct Answer

    student1              90               80                    95               70                         90

    student2              70               80                    75               95                         80

    student3              65               70                    80               100                       80

    student4              90               70                    70                65                        70

    student5              90               90                    85                85                        85

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

  • Issue#938489: Tableau - Return Division corresponding to row month

Hi, For a table:  MonthSourceNumDenomMay-201612830May-201621015June-201614042June-20162`1523 I wanted to please know how to create a calculated field in two ways:1) Return a Field=Num/Denom for Source 1 and 2 for only June-2016 manually (or any corresponding row month) 2) Return a Field=Num/Denom for the previous month in the Month column from the current month in time (Current month is July. So I want the division to be for fields corresponding to June 2016) Thanks.

  • Issue#1194342: Tableau - Display the largest 5 measure values from a large number of fields

I have created a visualization based on the U.S Dept of Education College Scorecard database that, among other things, allows a user to select a given college or university from a map. That filter action then populates a set of tables that provide information about that university, such as tuition costs, graduation rates, and the percentages of students registered within each major. In the source data, the level of record is a college, and the percentage of students enrolled within each major are separate fields (e.g., "Biology", "Psychology", "Business", etc.). Currently my visualization displays the same six majors, however, what I would like to do is to evaluate the values within those 30+ fields, and to dynamically display only the five largest values. So, for example, at College A, those might correspond to Business, Psychology, English, Physics and Computer Sciences. However, if I selected College B, the five most common majors might be entirely different.  Essentially, what

  • Issue#20: Tableau - Aggregation issue

Hello all, I just want to begin by saying how much this forum has saved my job! Thanks everyone! I am having an issue getting my values to aggregate properly. I have attached two pictures below to help explain:BEFOREAFTERThe problem is that when I remove a dimension, the values are not aggregating properly. Each Facility and Cost Center should have 1 App attached to it and taking away Summary Pay type should not aggregate those Apps. Once I take away Cost Center, then they should begin to aggregate. I can use MAX() but then it keeps the same value when I get rid of cost center and I would want that to be Summed. The end goal of this is to track Dollars/App By facility and able to drilldown to cost center, then summary pay type and another layer of fidelity that I may add in. Thanks!

  • Issue#23: Tableau - Pin row labels while scrolling crosstab in Tableau Server

When you're scrolling down a crosstab in Tableau Desktop, the leftmost row label(s) are pinned to the top of the screen so you can always see which section you're in.  This makes a big difference when you have hundreds of detail lines for each leftmost row - it allows you to always see which section you're in. When you publish the same cosstab to Tableau Server, this feature no longer exists.  The same feature should be added to Tableau Server. This idea is related to the following community forum pages. The first one has a good doc w/ screenshots to help explain -Locking the "pane" names on Tableau Server: http://community.tableausoftware.com/message/199663Lost crosstab parent column pinning when published to server?: http://community.tableausoftware.com/thread/121294

  • Issue#25: Tableau - Bar line with number of records line break inside

I am measuring total time worked by job by employee.  Right now I have this information: Leia did 1 job in 5 hoursHan did 3 jobs in 6 hoursLuke did 4 jobs in 10 hours Obi did 4 jobs in 7 hours  I want to know if any one job took an employee a long time or were they consistent with their time. Did Luke spend exactly 2.5 hrs per job or did he do 3 jobs in 3 hours then the last job took him 7 hours to complete?  The numbers I have are total time worked by employee and count of jobs worked by employee (the exact dates worked are irrelevant (so shuffling around the numbers isn't an issue)). I've attached a basic view of what I'm looking for.  Ideally the quickest turn around on a job is marked first, then the 2nd longest and so on. So the last break would always be their longest job worked. Also would be nice if the color slightly changed based on how long it took them to work that job, however this isn't a must.  Any help is appreciated.  Philip

  • Issue#73: Tableau - Pass-through number format for calculated fields based on a parameter

When using a parameter to dynamically select fields with multiple number formats, let the final display format be based on the underlying field number format, instead of forcing the number format to be set on the calculated field that does the CASE selection. For example:  Field A: Percentage  Field B: Currency  Field C: Integer Create a parameter called "Select field for axis:" that lists "Field A", "Field B", and "Field C" as options. Then create a calculated field with a case statement for each field, and put that on the chart axis. Currently, you have to set the number format on the calculated field, which is going to be right for one field, but wrong for the other two fields. Instead, let the calculated field number format be based on the underlying field being used, so if the user selects Field A, the axis and tooltip show percentages; Field B, currency; and Field C, whole numbers. This would really help for highly interactive dashboards making

  • Issue#86: Tableau - Additional date time number formats

I calculate time variances in some of my KPI dashboards that result in negative time values (e.g. if a procedure starts early it will be a negative variance from the planned time). Extending the custom number formats to allow for things like this would be great: "h:mm:ss;(h:mm:ss)". I currently have to color encode the values to be able to tell the difference between positive and negative values. It would also be great if this format worked like it does in Excel: "[h]:mm:ss". The brackets allow the hours to extend beyond a base 24 hour period. Currently 25 hours renders as "1:00:00". With my proposed format it would render as "25:00:00". [A related feature request is to support an actual TIME data type, that idea is at http://community.tableau.com/ideas/3315.] [Edited 20150810 to add the TIME data type reference - Jonathan Drummey]

  • Issue#110: Tableau - Row level security set up

Hello all. Since we do not have a security table in out data source we will have to deploy the manual security filtering. We have a requirement whereby users can only see the data for dashboard for their region: - Asia- Europe- Americas- WW Setting up row level security for each region is very simple. How can I apply the WW team to all regions?  Unless I missed something it seemed I could only assign a security group to a single Region data element. How can I assign WW team to all 3 Regions?

  • Issue#14461: Autodesk - Part number row merge setting

Greetings Inventor Gurus We recently just migrated our CAD systems over 2016 we we seem to be having a little issue with the Inventor BOM's. Not sure if any of you have come across this yet. As far as I understand, the Part number row merge setting tells inventor to combine rows with the same part number or not. What we are struggling with is getting inventor to unmerge or split rows. We cant seem to split them no matter what the setting. Any suggestions?

  • Issue#30014: Tableau - Percent over specific row - LOD?

I thought I could just use a LOD expression for this one, but it's proving to be more difficult than I thought  I have the following dimensions:CategorySubCategoryType Measure = "COUNT of Color" I am just building a table and need to show the % of Color by 'SubCategory'.  Since Tableau will show the % by the last Row added, it is showing % by 'Type'. I've tried creating LOD's with no luck, is there another way? Thanks! Toni

  • Issue#34897: Tableau - Tableau auto-populate formulas with whatever is currently in row/column field

Hey guys, So I want to print R values into the title of my sheet and I use the following: cov - (1/(SIZE()-1))*   WINDOW_SUM(     (SUM([x]) - WINDOW_AVG(SUM([x]))) *     (SUM([y])  - WINDOW_AVG(SUM([y])))  ) R - [cov] /(WINDOW_STDEV(SUM([x]))*WINDOW_STDEV(SUM([y]))) Is there any way to build these formulas such that I can throw a measures ([x], [y]) into the row and column fields and Tableau with automatically change the names of the measure in my calculations to match? So if I wanted measure a in the rows and measure b in the columns, when I drag those measure up there, all the [x] in the calculations would automatically change to [measure a] and the same with [y] to [measure b]. Obviously I would like to avoid having to build out every single version of these calculations for each combination of measures... Thanks!

  • Issue#38142: Giffgaff - Number transfer, shows two different numbers

I had a contract with O2. I asked them for PAC Code and ordered GG sim card. I actived GG sim card online (put the PAC code, number I want to keep, top up). I had a message that the day of transfer will be 29.01.16On that day as I expected I had no signal on my O2 card, I swaped the sim cards, put GG one and switched on the phone. For a couple of hours I had no service, after everything was fine. The main problem is... when someone call me or I call someone it shows the number from O2 which I want to keep but with txt messages it shows the one from GG - when I send txt message to someone there is no old number - just the new one.  What can I do with this kind of problem? Thank you for any help in advanceM.

  • Issue#55584: Tableau - How to show a new row as a percentage of prior two rows

Hi,I have a text table with two rows in it. The first column is a dimension which I have called measure, (excuse the name if confusing in the context of Tableau). Following in the table are 8 different measures. What I want to do is show a third row which is the percentage of the two above rows. In other words new row = (std margin row / sales row) * 100In the example above the new rows would equal 33.18 for column Q216 PRELIM and 33.06 for column Bill QTD. I appreciate that usually you would have separate actual measures for sales and std margin but in this case the format I have is driven from the data source. Visually it seems such a simple thing to do but I am fairly new to Tableau and cannot work out how to do this.Any help would be much appreciated! I have included the packaged workbook.RegardsCollin

Hi Guys  I know this problem might be ask many times in this forum, I try to search about this problem and found some similar thread but still cannot solve my problem.e.g. Running Distinct Sum or Total using COUNTD this should be most similar issue in my opinion.  So normally I can use COUNTD(Customer ID) to calculate amount of distinct customer but this can be only distinct customer of each day not all period. As you can see in a picture total unique of customer is 1,130 but when I use table calculation to do a running total the number on last day shown as 1,480(it should be shown as 1,130). How can I do a running total without duplicate value from previous days. Thank you in advanced
